A rare North West Frontier 1937 operations I.D.S.M. awarded to Sepoy Ranu, 1/17th Dogras

Indian Distinguished Service Medal, G.VI.R. (5137 Sepoy Ranu, 1-17 Dogra R.) edge nicks and contact marks, otherwise very fine £500-550

Ranu was decorated for his bravery in the North West Frontier 1937 operations, for trying to rescue, with Lieutenant Bellamy, two wounded soldiers - Bellamy was killed. The 1st Battalion, 17th Dogras went on to serve in Malaya, Burma and Java during the 1939-45 War.
