, G.VI.R., reverse officially dated ‘1944’ and privately engraved ‘Flt. Lt. E. Moon, 172116’, in its Royal Mint case of issue, the lid inscribed with a good luck message, good very fine, together with original Buckingham Palace forwarding letter in the name of ‘Flight Lieutenant Ernest Moon, D.F.C.’ £600-800

Ernest Moon, who trained as a pilot in Canada under the Joint Air Training Plan, was decorated for his services in No. 115 Squadron, a Lancaster unit operating out of Witchford, Cambridgeshire. At the time of being recommended for his D.F.C., he had completed 27 sorties and a total of 162 hours operational flying time.
