A Great War M.C. group of seven to Temporary-Major D. McD. Cameron, Seaforth Highlanders

Military Cross, G.V.R., reverse engraved, ‘Tekrit, Mesopotamia, Nov. 5th 1917’; 1914-15 Star (2 Lieut., Sea. Highrs.); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oak leaf (Lieut.); 1939-45 Star; Defence and War Medals, good very fine and ebtter (7) £600-800

M.C. London Gazette 11 January 1919. T/Lt., 8th attached 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (Mesopotamia). ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took charge of the Lewis guns of two companies who were holding a position dominated by the enemy. For over five hours he supervised the working of these guns with marked coolness and, by skilful handling knocked out an enemy machine-gun which was causing many casualties. He then advanced with the two companies to the assault, and during the barrage on the enemy’s trenches proceeded close up, and covering with his revolver a number of the enemy who were trying to escape, took them prisoners.’

Donald MacDonnell Cameron entered the Western European theatre of war as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 8th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders on 30 September 1915. Later promoted Lieutenant, he served in Mesopotamia, was wounded on 12 January 1918 and was awarded the Military Cross. In the Second World war, listed as a Captain in the Royal Artillery with seniority from 2 September 1939; appointed Acting-Major on 9 December 1940, Temporary-Major on 9 March 1941. A Captain on the Uneployed List in April 1943. Sold with some copied research.
