Three: Flight Sergeant H. E. Northcott, Royal Air Force, who participated in the last heavy bomber raid of the war, a strike against Tonsberg on the night of 25-26 April 1945

1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; War Medal 1939-45,
good very fine and better (3) £180-220

Northcott qualified as an Air Gunner at Pembrey in June 1944, and was posted to No. 192 Squadron, a Halifax unit operating out of Foulsham, in April 1945. As a result, he flew just one major sortie, namely that against the oil refinery at Tonsberg in Southern Norway on the night of 25-25 April. He did, however, participate in a trip to Flensburg on the night of 2-3 May 1945, just a day or two after Admiral Doenitz inherited the mantle from Hitler - Doenitz was then situated at the Naval H.Q. at Flensburg, so possibly this was the target. After the War Northcott transferred to Transport Command and was serving in Singapore in early 1947.

Sold with the recipient’s original Flying Log Book, covering the period June 1944 to January 1947.
