Ernest Field was born at Cobham, Surrey and lived at Ash, Surrey. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 4 November 1918, whilst serving with the 13th Battalion, Rifle Brigade. He is buried at Ghissignies British Cemetery, near Le Quesnoy, France. Sold with a photograph of the Ash War Memorial on which his name is also commemorated.
