Joseph Sheppard was born in Hinton, Wiltshire and enlisted at Swindon when living at Pewsey, Wiltshire. Serving with the 1st Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, he died on 18 September 1914. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on La Ferte-sous-Joarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France. Sold with copied m.i.c. which confirms clasp; also copied Wiltshire Regiment war diary for the period.
