Pair: Commander William Cadman, Royal Navy, killed in the internal explosion that occurred in H.M.S. Vanguard at Scapa Flow on 9 July 1917

William Cadman was born at Broughton Manor, near Malton, Yorkshire, on 1 April 1879. He was educated at Colet Court, Hammersmith, and at H.M.S.
Britannia, and joined the Navy as a Cadet aboard the Repluse in 1894. After service in the Hood and Diadem, he joined the Redpole in 1899 as Sub-Lieutenant, and served in this ship during the operations in China in 1900 (Medal). Cadman was promoted to Commander in January 1913 and appointed to the Vanguard in January 1914. It is not thought that served at sea with this ship at Jutland. He was killed by the internal explosion that occurred in H.M.S. Vanguard at Scapa Flow on 9 July 1917. Sold with copied entry from British Roll of Honour which gives a portrait and further details.
