Pair: Corporal L. Thornbur, Durham Light Infantry

Lambert Thornbur was born in the Parish of St. Andrew’s, Burnley, in 1862. A collier by occupation, he enlisted into the Army in 1881having formerly served in the 3rd Battalion East Lancashire Regiment. In 1882 he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry. He was present with the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry in Egypt and was present at the battle of Ginnis. He gained the rank of Sergeant in May 1886 but was tried and reduced to Corporal the following year. Thornbur transferred to the Army Reserve in November 1888. He was re-engaged in the 3rd Battalion Royal Northern Reserve from 5 April 1900 to 4 April 1901. Thornbur died in Skipton, Yorkshire on 8 June 1944, aged 82 years. Sold with copied research
