British War Medal 1914-20 (Mjr. E. I. Nelson) good very fine £40-50

Edward Irving Nelson was born on 25 March 1877. With the outbreak of the Great War, he served as a Private in the 7th S.A.I. (Kimberley Regiment) between November 1914 and February 1915. On 9 February 1915 he was appointed Temporary Lieutenant in the South African Veteran Regiment and on 1 October 1915 he was appointed Adjutant and Quartermaster, with the rank of Captain, of the Staff of the Prisoner of War Internment Camp at Ans in South West Africa. He was granted the rank of Captain whilst so employed and was promted Captain in January 1916. Appointed Temporary Commandant of the camp at Ans and to temporary command of the Protectorate Garrison Regiment in August 1917; he held the rank of Temporary Major whilst so employed. Nelson relinquished his temporary rank of Major in December 1918 and reverted to a Captain in the South African Service Corps. He was demobilized on 1 February 1920. Sold with copied service papers.
