Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (Lieut. E. O. F. Smith, Durham L.I.); together with a miniature dress medal bearing the same clasps, nearly extremely fine (2) £150-200

Edward Oliver Fryer Smith was born on 10 July 1877 at Cheadle, Staffordshire. Educated at Cheltenham College during 1887-1894, he entered the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion Durham Light Infantry on 25 May 1900. Promoted Lieutenant on 9 January 1904, he resigned his commission on 2 January 1904. Re-commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Irish Guards on 29 August 1917, he was again promoted Lieutenant on 28 February 1919. He relinquished his commission on 1 April 1920, retaining the rank of Hon. Lieutenant in the Army.
