John Fraser Dingwall Fordyce, who was born in November 1850, was originally commissioned into the 21st Hussars, in February 1869. Transferring to the Bengal Staff Corps in January 1872, he was posted to the 8th Cavalry, and served with the regiment in the Second Afghan War. In 1880 he again transferred, this time to the Bengal Military Accounts Department, and by April 1898, in the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, he was the Department’s Controller. Fordyce was given the Brevet of Colonel in April 1902 and retired later that year. He died in June 1924.
