Robert Johns was born at Stoke Dameril and joined the Royal Navy as a Painter aboard H.M.S. Druid on 17 April 1839. He was paid off from this ship on 22 April 1843. A man of this name served as an Able Seaman in the Erebus in the Arctic, 1845-48, but it is not confirmed as the same person.
