Military General Service 1793-1814, 3 clasps, St. Sebastian, Orthes, Toulouse (H. Y. Wortham, Lieut. R. Engrs.) nearly extremely fine and scarce £2000-2500

Only 46 medals to the Royal Engineers.

Hale Young Wortham joined the Royal Engineers on 1 July 1812, and was promoted to Lieutenant in July 1813. He served the campaigns of 1813 and ’14 in Spain and France, including the siege of St Sebastian, from 20th August to 9th September, 1813, and at the battles of Orthes and Toulouse (War Medal with three clasps). He served afterwards with the army in America, from September 1814 to May 1815, including the attack on the American lines before New Orleans, 8 January 1815, and the siege and capture of Fort Bowyer, 8-11 February 1815. He retired on full pay in the rank of Major-General in April 1858, and died sometime in 1882.
