Military General Service 1793-1814, 3 clasps, Pyrenees, Nive, Orthes (W. McChestney, 88th Foot) good very fine £600-700

William McChestney was born in the Parish of Canary, Co. Antrim, and enlisted at Dublin on 15 July 1812, aged twenty years. He was discharged on 29 December 1824, in consequence of a ‘diseased state of his left testicle. He received a severe bruise in the private parts when Sentry at the Barrack Gate at Naas in the month of Feby. 1814 by the gate being blown violently against him by the wind.’ The 88th went to America in August 1814 and were present at the battle of Plattsburg the following month.
