Military General Service 1793-1814, 2 clasps, Egypt, Martinique (Edwd. Rudd, 8th Foot) edge bruising, otherwise nearly very fine £1200-1400

Ex Gaskell and Needes collections. Onlty13 medals issued to the regiment with these two clasps. His Egypt clasp is verified on the Muster roll (WO 12/2568).

Sold with copy muster roll for the period June to September 1814, which shows Edward Rudd as being a prisoner of war from 17th September, on which day the regiment took part in a sortie from Fort Erie and suffered severe casualties.

The 8th Foot served in North America from June 1812 and, in 1813, saw action at Ogdensburg, York, Sackett’s Harbour, Stoney Creek, Fort George, Black Rock and Buffalo. In 1814 they fought at Chippewa, Lundy’s Lane, Fort Erie, and Plattsburg.
