The dandy was very similar to, and probably a regional equivalent of, the inveterate dhooly. Thus in Hobson Jobson, the dandy is described as ‘a kind of vehicle used in the Himalayas, consisting of a strong cloth slung like a hammock to a bamboo pole and carried by two or more men. The traveller can either sit sideways or lie on his back.’
