Three: Lance-Corporal F. Baxendale, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, later Acting Captain, Royal Garrison Artillery

Frank Baxendale was born in 1893 and attested for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, served with the 1st/4th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 29 March 1915. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery (Special Reserve) on 4 May 1917, and was promoted Acting Captain when serving as Second in Command of 85 Siege Battery. He was severely injured in a motor cycle accident while on duty at Esquelbec on 25 April 1918, after a motorcycle collided with a lorry, resulting in the amputation of a leg above the knee. Repatriated to the U.K., he was placed on the retired list as a consequence of his wounds, with the honorary rank of Captain, on 24 September 1919, and was awarded a Silver War Badge, no. 518788. He died in Watford, Hertfordshire, on 14 September 1968.
