M.I.D. London Gazette 18 December 1917.

Lovell Harold Carter first went to France on 5 October 1914, whilst serving with the Yorkshire Regiment. He subsequently transferred to the 10th (Scottish) Battalion, Liverpool Regiment. A fine photograph of Carter seated next to Basil Rathbone (of Sherlock Holmes fame) appears in the book,
Bravest of Hearts, by Hal Giblin.
