Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal (Lieut. D. M. Oliver, Norfolk Rgt.) together with portrait photograph contained in an old bakelite frame, good very fine £1500-1800

Douglas Morrison Oliver was born in September 1874 and entered the Norfolk Regiment in April 1895, from the South-East of Scotland Artillery (Southern Division, Royal Garrison Artillery), being promoted to Lieutenant in September 1897. Oliver belonged to the 1st Battalion, then in India, and was serving at the depot at Norwich, but volunteering for active service he was sent to South Africa in July 1900 where he served with the 2nd Battalion. He died at Nylstroom on 27 August 1900, of wounds received in action two days previously.
