F. Edwards attested for the 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales’s) Dragoon Guards, and served with them in South Africa during the Boer War. He was captured and taken Prisoner of War near Wolmaranstad on 24 July 1901, and was subsequently released.
Only 1 Squadron of the 5th Dragoon Guards was present at the Battle of Elandslaagte, 21 October 1899.
