James Mitchell Souter was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on 28 March 1894 and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, attached to 59 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps, during the Great War on the Western Front from 28 March 1917. He was killed in action when his RE8 was shot down over Arras on 11 April 1917, and is buried in Orchard Dump Cemetery, France.
