Memorial Plaque (William Charles Gray) mounted for display in a circular oak frame, the frame somewhat split; together with the recipient’s Memorial Scroll, ‘Pte William Charles Gray. Essex Regiment’, mounted in a glazed display frame, good very fine (4) £240-£280

Charles Gray, a native of Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, attested for the Essex Regiment and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 25 May 1915. He was killed in action on 15 February 1916, and is buried in the Sucriere Military Cemetery, Colincamps, France.

William Charles Gray, the eldest son of the above, attested for the Essex Regiment and served with the 1st/5th Battalion during the Great War in the Middle East. He was killed in action during the First Battle of Gaza on 26 March 1917; he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial.
