William Hyrons was born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, in 1827 and attested for the 38th (1st Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot on 9 March 1855. He served with the Regiment in the Crimea for 1 year (entitled to the Crimea Medal with clasp for Sebastopol and Turkish Medal), and in India for 14 years and 5 months, and was discharged on 14 September 1874, after 19 years and 56 days’ service.
