David Nicholas Brierley was born in December 1935, and joined the Royal Air Force as a Cadet Pilot in January 1957. He advanced to Flying Officer in April 1959, and to Flight Lieutenant in August 1963. Brierley retired from the General Duties Branch, transferring to the Reserve in January 1969, and relinquished his commission in January 1973.
