William John Dooley attested for the Suffolk Regiment and served with the 4th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 8 November 1914. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Suffolk Regiment on 15 December 1915, and subsequently transferred to the Royal Air Force.
