Albert Edward Notley served with the Army Service Corps during the Great War, initially as a Staff Sergeant Major, on the Western Front from 9 August 1914. He was commissioned Quartermaster (Second Lieutenant) on 15 December 1914 and for his services during the Great War was advanced Major, was awarded the Military Cross, and was Mentioned in Despatches.
