Reginald James Goddard was born in Eton, Buckinghamshire, on 7 April 1900 and joined the Royal Nay as a Boy Second Class on 27 October 1915. He was advanced Yeoman of Signals on 27 February 1931 and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 4 May 1933. He was promoted Chief Yeoman of Signals on 11 July 1935, and served during the Second World War.
