Ireland: Pre-1921 issues, Ballykinlar Internment Camp, Threepence, on light card, denomination and camp details on front and details of printers on back. Crease mark on back, otherwise about very fine, extremely rare (£500-600)

During the Irish war of independence the British military commenced the internment of known Irish nationalists at Ballykinlar, co. Down. At its peak the internment camp was home to about 5,000 internees who used a variety of cards printed by O’Loughlin, Murphy & Boland Ltd, Upper Dorset street, Dublin, as currency. The only other Threepence believed known is in the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin
