France, Exposition International des Arts et Techniques, Paris, 1937, a large cast gilt-bronze medal by H. Dropsy, female preparing to crown a naked male worker with a wreath, rev. three standing figures, named (René Dickman, Commissaire Général de l’Union Sud-Africaine), 115mm (Dropsy Exh. Cat. 1964 –; cf. DNW 46, 826). Extremely fine, very rare as a named award; in original brown leather fitted Arthus-Bertrand case (£60-80)

The recipient is presumed to be the same person who worked with the native commissioners and who, in the 1920s, was responsible for photographing Kwanyama ceremonies
