Gyles Childe (†November 1661), mercer, married firstly Ellen Gauderne March 1631 (†June 1636), secondly Dorothy [surname obscure on register] September 1636; Richard Lucas (†1675), innkeeper of The Red Lion, formerly located at 9 High Street, High Wycombe (demolished c.1970, now a Woolworths store), was one of the most influential figures in the town. He was an alderman for 26 years, from 1649 until his death, served as mayor three times, in 1660, 1667 and 1672, and was elected a JP in 1662.
