Edward Plester attested for the Hampshire Regiment on 8 August 1914 and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 9 June 1915. Later transferring to the 23rd (Garrison) Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, he was discharged on 15 February 1919, and was awarded a Silver War Badge no B.238274.

William Robert Plester, brother of the above, was born in North Newington, Oxfordshire, in October 1894 and attested for the Royal Berkshire Regiment. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 6 November 1914, and was killed in action on 29 August 1918. He is buried in Orchard Dump Cemetery, Arleux-en-Gohelle, France.
