John Williams was born at Youngstown, Ohio, United States of America in 1882, and by 1911 was residing at Trealaw, Rhondda, South Wales. He attested for the Royal Engineers at Tonypandy, Rhondda, and served in 151st Field Company during the Great War on the Western Front from 4 December 1915. He died of wounds at 47th Casualty Clearing Station on 3 August 1917, and is buried at Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium.
