William Timbrell was born in Shrivenham and attested for the Oxfordshire Light Infantry at Hungerford. He served with the 2nd Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry during the Great War on the Western Front from 13 August 1914, and died of wounds on 22 October 1914. He is buried in Ypres Town Cemetery, Belgium.
