Percival Henry Ernest Bowers was born in Oxford in 1881 and attested there for the Oxfordshire Light Infantry on 6 September 1899, having previously served in the Regiment’s 4th (Militia) Battalion. He served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 3 August 1901 to 5 March 1902, and saw further service during the Great War.
