Edward Rutley Pocock Marshall was born in Lydd, Kent in June 1884. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in January 1902, and advanced to Petty Officer in December 1915. Service included in H.M.S. St. George (cruiser), May 1912 - December 1917. Marshall was ‘Shore Pensioned’ in June 1924.
