Edward Ernest Garwood was born in Newington, London, on 11 September 1895, and, attesting for the Devonshire Regiment, served with the 8th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 31 December 1915. He died in Harlesden, Middlesex, on 12 February 1950.

Norman James Parkhurst was born in Wandsworth, London, on 1 August 1889 and was commissioned temporary Sub-Lieutenant on 25 June 1917. Posted to the Kite Balloon Station at Sheerness (H.M.S. Mancia), he transferred to the Royal Air Force with the rank of Lieutenant on its formation on 1 April 1918, and was employed on Kite Balloon work at sea. He transferred to the Unemployed list on 1 June 1919.
