John Arthur Cannon, a native of Ware, Hertfordshire, attested for the Royal Engineers and served with the Inland Water Transport unit during the Great War in Mesopotamia. He drowned on 9 June 1918; his body was not recovered, and he is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq.
