Ernest Joseph Alexander was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on 22 April 1918, and attested for the Royal Highland Regiment of Canada on 9 September 1939. He served during the Second World War in North West Europe from 6 July 1944, and was wounded and taken Prisoner of War on 28 July 1944. He was held at Stalag 12D, and having been liberated was discharged at Montreal on 31 October 1945.
