Hammer Price:
£170

Cambridgeshire, Cambridge, Skidmore’s Globe series, Penny, 1797, King’s College Chapel, rev. similar, edge lettered, 24.14g/12h (DH 4 and Middlesex 117). An early striking from the usual flawed obverse die, almost extremely fine with a hint of original colour, rare (£100-150)

Provenance:
Fawcett/Litman Collection.

King’s College was founded in 1441 and although Henry VI laid the foundation stone for the chapel in 1446, subsequent financial problems meant that the building, one of the finest Gothic structures in Europe, was only completed by 1530
