Edward I (1272-1307), Groat, London, mm. cross pattée, cinquefoil each side of bust wearing flat crown with pellet ornaments, rosette below drapery all within quatrefoil, trefoils in spandrels, colon stops, 5.41g/7h (N 1007; S 1379A). Scratched across shoulders and in centre of reverse, surfaces a little pitted, otherwise nearly very fine with dark tone, no traces of gilding or mounting, rare (£2,000-2,500)
