Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (S/12836 Pte., Rif. Bde.) with fixed suspension and later impressed naming; 1914-15 Star and Victory Medal (Pte., Rif. Bde.) together with British War Medal awarded to his brother (DM2-208047 Pte. S. Benton, A.S.C.) the first very fine, remainder polished, good fine (4) £100-150

D.C.M. London Gazette 24 June 1916 ‘For conspicuous gallantry. During a heavy bombardment by the enemy with trench mortars Privates Benton and Webster succeeded in digging out three buried men in broad daylight under heavy fire of all kinds.’
