Alexander Lunney was born in January 1864 and served for 20 years and 103 days in the ranks of the Medical Staff Corps. He was commissioned into the Royal Army Medical Corps in February 1901 and was present during the Boer War at the Relief of Ladysmith and actions at Spion Kop, Pieters Hill and Laing’s Nek. He was mentioned in despatches during the Great War, London Gazette 22 June 1915, and granted the honorary rank of Major. He is also entitled to a Mons Star and Victory Medal.
