Edward Gaynor was born in Ararat, Victoria, Australia, in 1871. He probably paid his own passage to South Africa to serve during the Boer War, being invalided home in 1901. He enlisted at Perth in November 1915, one month before his 45th birthday, and arrived in France in May 1916, being attached to 254 Tunneling Coy. Royal Engineers. Discharged after being admitted to hospital in October 1916, suffering from Sciatica, and returned to Australia early in 1917. Sold with service details.
