Flight Lieutenant Francis Shaw Johnson joined the R.A.F. early in 1941. On completion of his training as a Pilot he was commissioned and commenced operations with Coastal Command (233 Squadron, Hudson’s). After completion of a tour he returned to the U.K. as an instructor. After six months instructing he returned to operational flying (220 Squadron, Fortresses) completing a second tour. Johnson was released from the Service in 1946 making a career for himself as a commercial pilot.
