Entered the Indian Army in June 1889; promoted to Jemadar, 1 November 1901; served North West Frontier of India 1897-98 - Defence of Malakand, action at Landikai, operations in Bajour and in the Mahmund country (medal with 2 clasps); Tirah 1897-98 - operations in the Bara Valley, 7th to 14th December 1897 (clasp); Waziristan 1901-2 (clasp). Note that this medal should have the clasp for Malakand in place of that for Samana.
