Seljuq of Kirman, Turanshah I, Dinar, Bardasir 485h, citing the caliph al-Mustazhir (sic), 3.18g/8h (A 1700; ICV 1851, this coin illustrated). Some weakness in margins, otherwise very fine, very rare £300-£400

Provenance: Baldwin Islamic Auction 15, 17 March 2009, lot 589; Tim Wilkes FPL 15, Spring 2012 (163).

One would expect a coin of this date to bear the name of al-Muqtadi, as al-Mustazhir did not become caliph until 487h. Both the date and the caliph’s name are clear, and as they are both on the obverse it cannot be a mule. Perhaps the date was intended to be 488h
