Elizabeth I (1558-1603), Third issue, Sixpence, 1564/2, mm. pheon, bust 3E, normal flan, Tudor rose, reads elizabeth d g ang fr et hi regina, 2.74g/5h (BCW BA-9G:BA-n7; N 1997; S 2561B). Slightly buckled, otherwise good very fine, rare £200-£300

Provenance: DNW Auction 136, 8 June 2016, lot 592.

Previously described by the present cataloguer as 1564/3/2 (?), the late vendor notes the following on his ticket ‘Same obverse die as E 1797 (1563/2) [C.H. Comber specimen]. Reverse compared with all BA-l7 (1563/2) and BA-n7 (1564/2) specimens but no die match. Reverse die not same as Shuttlewood 3E 1563/3 die. Oversize obliteration punch’
