Belgium, 50th Anniversary of the Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes, 1906, a large uniface silver plaque by C. Meunier for Wolfers Frès, shoulder-length portrait of a male artisan left, holding axe, 86 x 75mm (BDM IV, 51). Bold style, extremely fine and toned, very rare; in original light blue fitted case (£90-120)

Constantine Meunier (1831-1905), painter and sculptor from Etterbeek; he ranked, according to a note by Tristan Leclerc published posthumously in Revue universelle, 1905, among the ‘premier rang non seulement des sculpteurs belges’, following in the manner of Auguste Rodin and Jules Dalou. Illustration reduced
