Anglo-Gallic, Richard I (1189-1199), Aquitaine, Obole, type 2, unbarred as both sides, 0.68g/9h (E 7 [not in Sale]). Slightly weak, otherwise good fine, on an unusually round and heavy flan, extremely rare; perhaps the finest known specimen (£200-300)

This excessively rare type, an example of which was never seen by Hewlett and only recorded by him from the specimen described by Poey d’Avant, was not represented in the Elias sale, although Elias recorded the weights of two examples in his book. Illustration enlarged
