A tourmaline and diamond ring by H Stern, a tsavorite garnet and diamond crossover ring and a pair of tourmaline ear studs, the first ring claw set with an oval-shaped green tourmaline with trio of brilliant-cut diamonds, maker’s mark for H Stern, the emerald-cut tsavorite garnet ring with baguette-cut diamond detail, on square profiled band, unsigned, together with a pair of oval green tourmaline ear studs, claw set, to post and butterfly fittings, ring sizes M and L½ respectively, with original receipt from H Stern, Rua Garcia D’Avila, 113, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro dated 20.08.86. 400-£600

H. Stern was founded in Brazil in 1945 by Hans Stern. Initially dealing in precious stones, they later moved to design jewellery. The firm is still family owned and stores located in Latin America, United States, Europe & Asia, although the headquartered and centre of manufacture is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1949 H. Stern store opened a store on the Rio de Janeiro docks, the point of arrival for international passengers on cruise ships.

The firm is focused on creating and promoting an international interest in the finest semi-precious coloured stones, such aquamarine, tourmaline, etc., many of which are sourced ‘locally’, in Brazil.
